This painting was done using Arteza gouache paints. It came to me via my instagram (@gabriellabrunoart). I really enjoyed completing this piece.
As a horse lover myself I thoroughly relished the opportunity to express the horse’s devotion and loyalty to its owner. The piece also perfectly demonstrates chiaroscuro this term originated from the Renaissance period and refers to the strong contrast of light and dark. Chiaroscuro when implemented effectively achieves a sense of volume in three dimensional objects.
I am a devoted reader of art history books about the Italian Renaissance. One in particular that I have found interesting with lots of insight into the developments of art and culture during this period is ‘The Italian Renaissance,’ by Virginia Cox.
