This is one of my favourite pieces. This barn owl was beautifully captured in watercolour paint. I used Windsor and Newton watercolour paint on Arches 300 gsm cold pressed water colour paper.
One of the main challenges with this piece was trying to capture the free spirit of this incredible creature whilst it perches majestically on a stump. The intricate details on the feathers contribute to the elegance.
I aimed to limit the washes I used. Once I had placed some simple washes down I utilised a 0.5 round brush to develop the complexity of each individual feather. I feel like the balance between both enhances the beauty within creation.
